Praying in response to Proverbs 6.6-11
- Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!
How shall we respond in prayer to such a direct instruction from God?
When did you last acknowledge that this cap fits? In my experience there is a sluggard in every human heart, certainly there’s one in mine. How recently did you deliberately obey this instruction? Finding an ant, resisting the temptation to play with a magnifying glass, and then considering its ways.
Are you too busy or too lazy?
We could ask these verses to show us what sort of community they are designed to avoid, and what sort of community they are designed to achieve.
We could then write a prayer in response.
What’s most helpful about asking a passage like this one about the sort of community that it is designed to achieve, and avoid, rather than simply asking what sort of individual it is designed to achieve and avoid?
